Memorial Day

Memorial Day is the day where we as a country honor the soldiers who have died while serving our country. It is celebrated or observed on the last Monday of May which it used to be originally May 30th which changed to the last Monday of May. Many Americans visit cemeteries or memorials and honor them with flowers and and other item they wish to place on the grave. Most families also host family gatherings and most attend parades. The purpose of Memorial Day is to remember the fallen and honor those who have served our country.

Memorial Day makes me thankful and very grateful to the ones who serve our country especially because I did have a family member serve in the military. It's like another day for me to remember and honor all those who have fallen and those who are currently serving in the military. I don't go crazy over it, but I still care because I know most people look over the holiday and don't really care and it keeps me modest and grateful for what I have. I don't think I could ever do it so I give my respect to anyone who joins the military and they literally put their lives on the line to keep us safe from foreign attack or any threats. Memorial Day means a good deal to me to the point where I respect the fallen or those who are serving and try not to be disrespectful at all.

My grandpa served in the army during the Vietnam war and he is the main reason I care about Memorial Day because I realize that there are family members all over the world who has parents, siblings, etc. serving. I think he served in 1968-1969 as an engineer and he mainly built bridges which I am assuming were important for transportation and although it's not soldiers in constant danger I still appreciate that he served for our country. Memorial Day is important because to many it means a lot to them and to have a whole day to recognize our heroes and honor them is a great thing. The sacrifice that the soldiers are making to serve our country is immense considering there are some with families and loved ones that they have to leave. Memorial Day is a great day all around and is a holiday that should be used to recognize the soldiers and the fallen and not really focus on the partying and other activities.
